Crowdfunding for creators: fund your own project

As a creator, you can start a crowdfunding campaign on DonoLink for a specific project, such as an album, short film, book or exhibition. Your audience donates with nothing in return, you share progress through updates, and the money comes through even if you don’t fully reach your goal.

Donations instead of pre-orders

A lot of crowdfunding for creators revolves around rewards: pay more and you get a signed record or your name in the credits. That’s essentially a pre-order, with shipping costs, delivery times and promises you have to keep. On DonoLink, crowdfunding is purely about donations. Your audience backs your project because they want it to exist, and you don’t have to post any parcels.

That works best for projects people already care about: a podcast with loyal listeners, a band with a dedicated following, an illustrator with a community on Instagram or a creator who has shared free videos for years.

Keep-it-all instead of all-or-nothing

Some platforms only pay out if you hit your goal. That can be motivating, but if you fall just short you get nothing and all your promotion was for nothing. DonoLink is keep-it-all: every donation comes through. So set a realistic goal and explain what you’ll do with more or less, such as a smaller print run or an extra music video.

Get your project noticed

  • Show who you are and what you make in a short video.
  • Break your goal down into recognisable items: studio time, mastering, printing or venue hire.
  • Share updates from the making process, even the small steps.
  • Put the campaign link in your bio, under your videos and in your newsletter.
  • Use the QR code at gigs, signings or on flyers.

Several projects on one profile

Your profile page shows all your campaigns. After a successful campaign it stays visible next to your next project, so new supporters can see what you’ve delivered before. Do you stream as well? In your settings you can switch between a streamer and a crowdfunding account without losing anything.

What goes into your campaign

A DonoLink campaign is a page of its own with a title, a one-line summary of what it’s about, a goal and an end date. At the top you add a cover photo or a YouTube video, followed by your story and a gallery of up to six photos. You pick an accent colour and the amounts you suggest to donors. Visitors can see at a glance how much has been raised, what share of the goal that is, how many people have chipped in and how many days are left.

Along the way you post updates with a title, text and an optional photo, so everyone can see what the money is doing. The supporters’ wall shows who donated, by name or as ‘Anonymous’, together with their message. You decide whether amounts are shown and whether anonymous donations are allowed. You can share your campaign on WhatsApp, with a link to copy or with a QR code for a poster or flyer. All your campaigns sit together on your profile page.

Keep-it-all: every donation reaches you

With DonoLink, every successful donation comes through, even if you don’t reach your goal. After the end date the campaign closes to new donations, but the page stays online so everyone can look back at what you achieved together. Payouts go through your own connected Stripe account; Stripe asks you to verify your identity.

This is always donation crowdfunding. Donors don’t get a return, shares or a loan repayment, and there are no rewards or perks. People who give are simply backing your cause.

Linky helps you get started

When you sign up, Linky, DonoLink’s mascot, asks what you want to do and who you’re raising money for. Then you set up your first campaign together with a title, a goal and an end date. During the campaign Linky gives you a shout at milestones, such as your first donation or reaching half your goal, and a gentle nudge if you haven’t posted an update for a week. That makes crowdfunding easy, even if you’ve never run a fundraiser before.

Payments and fees in your country

If you run your campaign in Belgium, use donolink.be, in Dutch or in French at /fr. Your donors pay with Bancontact and, depending on the methods you switch on, by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. DonoLink keeps 3.5% of each donation and Stripe charges €0.35 per Bancontact payment on top. From a €25 Bancontact donation you keep about €23.77. There is no subscription, and DonoLink never asks your donors for a tip.

Frequently asked questions

Can I give rewards to my supporters?

No, DonoLink doesn’t do rewards or pre-orders. If you want to sell a product in advance, a rewards platform is a better fit. If you want your audience to back your project without you having to deliver anything, DonoLink is the right choice.

What if I raise more than my goal?

Your campaign stays open until the end date, even once the goal has been reached. Use an update to explain what you’ll do with the extra money.

Do I have to pay tax on donations as a creator?

That depends on your situation. If the money is for your profession or business, it may count as income; as a private individual, the rules on gifts are more likely to apply. Our overview by country will help you get started, and if in doubt, ask a tax adviser.

Can I keep streaming alongside my crowdfunding?

Yes. You can switch account type in your settings without losing anything. A crowdfunding account doesn’t show streaming features such as overlays; they come back as soon as you switch again.

How much does crowdfunding with DonoLink cost?

Creating an account and a campaign is free. DonoLink keeps 3.5% of each donation. Stripe also charges transaction fees that depend on the payment method; the details for your country are on this page. There is no subscription, and DonoLink never asks your donors for a tip.

Do I get the money if I don’t reach my goal?

Yes. Every successful donation comes through, whether or not you hit your goal. After the end date no more donations can be made and the page stays visible.

Can I offer rewards or a return?

No. DonoLink is for donation crowdfunding only: no rewards, no pre-orders and no returns. Donors give voluntarily, without getting anything in return.

Do donors need an account?

No. They open your campaign link, choose an amount and pay. They can leave a name and message for the supporters’ wall, or donate anonymously if you allow it.
