Donation links with Bancontact in Belgium: a creator’s guide
Create a donation link for your podcast, videos or streams in Belgium. Learn about Bancontact, fees, sharing your page and checking payment readiness.
Do you make podcasts, videos, illustrations or livestreams in Belgium? A donation link lets your audience support your creative work voluntarily. On DonoLink, supporters can use Bancontact when the creator offers it. They do not need a DonoLink account; you still need to create yours and complete payment activation.
Use a donation link without livestreaming
Put your link in podcast show notes, below a video or on your portfolio. Explain what people are supporting, for example: “Help me make more free drawing tutorials”. Make clear that support is optional. You do not need a live broadcast, chat command or OBS overlay.
This guide concerns support for your own creative work. For charity collections, shared money pots or payments for orders, first check whether the platform and payment provider’s terms cover your intended use. Having a donation link does not establish that.
Create your page and activate payments
Create your account, choose your username and add a profile photo, a short introduction and suggested amounts. Your DonoLink account works on donolink.be and donolink.nl with the same username, donations and settings. You do not need a separate profile for audiences in both countries.
Complete the Stripe connection from your dashboard. Use the account type that fits your situation and provide the information Stripe requests. Check your enabled payment methods and whether your account is ready to receive payments. On the Belgian site, Bancontact appears first when you offer it. A created profile alone does not mean payments are active.
Bancontact on a phone or computer
The official Bancontact guide explains online payment through the Bancontact Pay app or a banking app; on a computer, the payment step may display a QR code. Follow the instructions shown by your payment page.
A QR code linking to your DonoLink profile opens your donation page first. It is different from a Bancontact payment QR code used to confirm a selected payment. If payment does not work inside a social app’s browser, open the same official link in your usual browser. Check for confirmation before paying again.
What does a Bancontact donation cost?
The standard DonoLink fee is 3.5% per donation. Stripe separately charges €0.35 for Bancontact to your connected creator account. There is no signup fee or subscription. For a €10 donation without voluntary fee coverage, €0.35 goes to DonoLink and €0.35 to Bancontact processing, leaving €9.30.
The supporter pays the chosen amount unless they voluntarily cover fees. Other payment methods have different processing costs. Check the current prices and calculator for your amounts.
Check your page before sharing
- Open your link as a visitor on a phone and computer. Check your name, explanation, language and suggested amounts.
- Bancontact missing? Check your enabled methods and any outstanding information requests from Stripe.
- Supporters outside Belgium may use other methods. Check what your page actually offers.
Choose your donation-page language to match your audience, or use its automatic setting. For an English-speaking community in Belgium, choosing English explicitly keeps the intended language clear.
Optional for streamers: add OBS alerts
Share your link in Twitch panels, YouTube descriptions, a Kick profile or a TikTok bio where links are available. A chat command or profile QR code can help viewers find it. Clearly state that donations are voluntary.
For channel-specific steps, see the Belgian guides to Twitch donations with Bancontact and supporting a YouTube Live creator, available in Dutch and French.
Create an alert in your dashboard, add its browser source to OBS and check the picture and sound using a test alert. An overlay test does not make a payment or prove your payment activation is complete. A missing alert after a confirmed payment is not a reason to pay again.
